Special Interview of the 24th Xiamen International Stone Fair in 2024 with Xiamen Stonelink - Part 5
Topic 5 of Interview on the 2024 Xiamen Habitat Design and Life Festival: Dialogue with Eva Li, General Manager of Xiamen Stonelink Imp. & Exp. Co., Ltd., and renowned designer Kinney Chan - About the symbiosis model of Habitat & Design & Stone   Interview with renowned designer Kinney Chan: The application and sustainability of natural stone have become the focus of current design attention. In this regard, what inspirations do you think it can give to the development and application of stone? As a designer, what other symbiotic models do you think of habitat & design & stone?   Kinney Chan:  Let's take a look at some European buildings. Most of the well-preserved works are derived from the use of stone. Therefore, the characteristics of stone determine that it is very strong and durable. However, many times now, whether it is designed or renovated, it is often directly dismantled, and the stone becomes waste, wasting their characteristics. So I'm thinking about whether we can recycle the dismantled stone and turn the stone into a material that can be recycled all the time. Also, no matter what time it is, I think we should pay attention to a balanced use, so that we can give full play to the beauty and characteristics of stone and meet people's functional needs.   Interview with Eva Li, General Manager of Xiamen Stonelink Imp. & Exp. Co., Ltd.: The application and sustainability of natural stone have become the focus of current design attention. In this regard, what inspirations do you think it can give to the development and application of stone? As a stone person, what other symbiotic models do you think of habitat & design & stone?   Eva Li:  As a natural resource, stone's sustainability and environmental protection are crucial. In the process of mining and using stone, we should pay attention to saving resources and protecting the environment, and minimize the damage to the natural ecology. Balanced use of stone and avoiding over-exploitation and waste are important principles of sustainable development. Good stone and excellent design can last for 100 years. This is the best environmental protection. Designers can create unique visual effects and spatial experiences through clever use of stone veins, colors and textures. At the same time, the strong and durable properties of stone also make it ideal for construction and interior decoration. The symbiosis between habitat, design and stone is diverse and innovative. For example, in interior design, stone can be used on floors, walls, furniture, and decorations to add texture and beauty to living spaces. At the same time, stone can also be combined with other materials such as wood and metal to create a variety of design styles and effects. Stone can also be combined with technology, such as smart stone, stone furniture, etc., to bring more convenience and comfort to people's lives. Whether it is traditional stone or new stone prod...

Special Interview of the 24th Xiamen International Stone Fair in 2024 with Xiamen Stonelink - Part 4
Topic 4 of Interview on the 2024 Xiamen Habitat Design and Life Festival: Dialogue with Eva Li, General Manager of Xiamen Stonelink Imp. & Exp. Co., Ltd., and renowned designer Kinney Chan - About how stone integrates into people's daily lives   Interview with renowned designer Kinney Chan: Under the current design trends, in what way should stone be better integrated into people's daily lives? Could you please share it based on the curatorial design and implementation of this exhibition?   Kinney Chan:  We know the characteristics of stone itself, which are relatively hard and very durable, so they can be passed down for a hundred years or more without damaging its quality. Sometimes, they can also be polished to enhance their waterproof function. So we can see a lot of stone applications in bathrooms, kitchens and other spaces. Of course, in many cases, it can also be used on the countertops of homes and cabinets, because stone is anti-fouling, easier to clean, etc. When we use stone, we must first understand one of its characteristics, but our current life is also very different from our previous life, so I hope that through the design of the exhibition and everyone's power, more people will be able to activate their interest in stone. The thinking, including the current technology, is also very mature, and we can be more bold in exploring and thinking about the possibilities of stone.   Interview with Eva Li, General Manager of Xiamen Stonelink Imp. & Exp. Co., Ltd.: STONELINK is deeply involved in the entire industrial chain from source to portal. From your perspective, in what ways is stone integrated into people's daily lives? How should we integrate better in the future?   Eva Li:  STONELINK has been deeply involved in the stone industry for many years and has witnessed the wide application and evolution of stone in people's lives. First of all, with the development of technology, the application range of stone is becoming more and more extensive, not only limited to traditional floors, walls, etc., but also involving home decoration, art and other fields. Secondly, with the improvement of people's aesthetics and the pursuit of personalized and tasteful life, the natural texture and diversity of stone can better meet the needs of creating unique and personalized spaces for thousands of people. In order to better integrate into people's daily lives, the stone industry needs continuous innovation and exploration. In the future, we look forward to seeing the emergence of more stone products with unique performance and aesthetics to meet people's growing needs for a better life. At the same time, with the development of science and technology, stone processing and installation technology will also become more advanced and convenient, allowing stone to better adapt to the application of various spaces and scenes. In addition, strengthening cooperation between the stone industry and the design community is ...

Special Interview of the 24th Xiamen International Stone Fair in 2024 with Xiamen Stonelink - Part 3
Topic 3 of Interview on the 2024 Xiamen Habitat Design and Life Festival: Dialogue with Eva Li, General Manager of Xiamen Stonelink Imp. & Exp. Co., Ltd., and renowned designer Kinney Chan - Understanding of choosing suitable stone materials   Interview with renowned designer Kinney Chan: Among the stones this time, you mainly selected Excalibur quartzite and Babylon Grey marble. What was your impression of these two main materials before designing? What new understanding do you gain after designing? Can you tell us about the characteristics of the main materials chosen this time and what scenarios they are suitable for from a designer's perspective?   Kinney Chan:  We mainly used two stones this time. One is the weaving at the entrance. First of all, I don’t think it should be too messy. If the texture is too messy, it will be difficult to reflect the texture of the stone carved into the weave, and people will not be able to see it. So I went with this cleaner Babylon grey marble. Another stone used is the Excalibur quartzite. Its texture is very clear and beautiful, which can form a very obvious contrast with the cleanness of Babylon Grey marble. As for what scenarios these two main materials can be used in, I think more often it needs to match the concept of design space. For example, when applied in residential space, it may be some relatively clean stones, like the Babylon Grey marble we used this time. Grey is a high-end grey that is more popular now. It can be changed in many forms; another example is the Excalibur quartzite, which has a more complicated texture and can be used in more unique exhibition spaces. The application scenarios of stone should be combined with the design concept and overall color matching, including other materials such as leather and fabrics. In this exhibition, we also hope that through this form, we can activate people's imagination and activate their thinking about stone.   Interview with Eva Li, General Manager of Xiamen Stonelink Imp. & Exp. Co., Ltd.: Stone carving is a job that requires great ingenuity. It must be even more difficult for Kinney to present this plan to everyone. Can you share with us how STONELINK worked with Mr. Chen to refine and deepen the plan, and how to find the most appropriate process and method to present it? Do you have any experiences, insights or suggestions that you would like to share with your peers?   Eva Li:  Stone carving does require ingenuity, and every detail needs to be carefully considered. Kinney has very high requirements for the veins, texture and presentation of stone, which requires us to conduct in-depth research and exploration in craftsmanship and methods. During the implementation of the plan, we worked closely with Mr. Chen, constantly trying, adjusting and improving, striving to perfectly present his design concept. We pay attention to the characteristics and texture of stone, make full use of its natural texture ...

Special Interview of the 24th Xiamen International Stone Fair in 2024 with Xiamen Stonelink - Part 2
Topic 2 of Interview on the 2024 Xiamen Habitat Design and Life Festival: Dialogue with Eva Li, General Manager of Xiamen Stonelink Imp. & Exp. Co., Ltd., and renowned designer Kinney Chan - on how to use the "softness" of stone to present idle beauty of space   Interview with renowned designer Kinney Chan: How did you use stone as the main material in this fair to present the beauty of design and space? Can you briefly share the highlights and details of this design?   Kinney Chan:  As mentioned earlier, our design this time focuses on weaving, which utilizes current stone carving techniques to carve stone into a woven form. When we go to see the development of decoration in Europe, there are actually many cases of stone and stone carving. However, due to cost and material reasons, this carving technique is rarely used anymore. Of course, there are still European styles, but can we use a modern technique to present them? So the entire space, from the first visual perspective, will give people a warmer and softer feeling, breaking the cold and stiff feeling people have towards stone. As for the main design highlight of this time, I think it is specious but not true. That is to say, when you see something that appears similar on the surface, but in reality, it is not. This artistic technique is not widely used in the daily use of decoration materials, as people usually turn stone into art pieces and place it in their homes as decoration, which is a form of soft decoration. But this time, we presented it directly in the hardcover design, which is itself a work of art, an installation, but also exists in the space. With the assistance of lighting, heating pipes, etc., we aim to change people's initial impression of stone.   Interview with Eva Li, General Manager of Xiamen Stonelink Imp. & Exp. Co., Ltd.: We stone people often talk about the soft side of stone and try to express ourselves. But it has to be said that Kinney Chan's interpretation of "softness" this time is truly romantic and concrete, also very convincing. I don't know how you felt when you saw the plan?   Eva Li:  For Kinney's interpretation of "softness" this time, I believe he has truly achieved both romance and concreteness. He cleverly combines stone carving techniques with spatial details of arcs to present the stone in a woven form, as if melting the hardness and coldness of the stone into the art of weaving. Combined with the warm and clean color of Babylon Grey marble, the entire space is made warm and soft. Kinney concretized the abstract concept of "softness", allowing people to not only feel the beauty of stone, but also to re-examine the diversity and possibilities of stone. Kinney's design philosophy and techniques undoubtedly bring new thinking and inspiration to the field of stone design. I look forward to seeing the final presentation of this design proposal, and I believe it will bring everyone a brand new visual and tactile exper...

Special Interview of the 24th Xiamen International Stone Fair in 2024 with Xiamen Stonelink - Part 1
Topic 1 of Interview on the 2024 Xiamen Habitat Design and Life Festival: Dialogue with Eva Li, General Manager of Xiamen Stonelink Imp. & Exp. Co., Ltd., and renowned designer Kinney Chan - On the theme of the Festival - "To Activate"   Interview with renowned designer Kinney Chan: The theme of this year's Xiamen Habitat Design and Life Festival is "To Activate". What were your thoughts when you received this proposition? What is the correlation between your current design theme "Weaving" and this year's theme "To Activate"?   Kinney Chan:  When I see the words "To Activate", the first thing that comes to my mind is people's views on certain fixed things. Therefore, my understanding of "To Activate" is not only about activating stone, but also about breaking people's conventional thinking about things. In traditional applications, stone is mostly used for furniture and wall cladding, or is it left to give people a very cold and hard feeling. So, in this design, we break people's perception of stone by using the element of sweaters and weaving patterns.   Interview with Eva Li, General Manager of Xiamen Stonelink Imp. & Exp. Co., Ltd.: This year is Stonelink's first time participating in the Xiamen Habitat Design and Life Festival. Why do you want to participate in this project? What was your feeling when you received the curatorial theme of "To Activate"? What are your expectations?   Eva Li: As representatives of stone brands, we are well aware of the important position of stone in architecture and home design. But we also realize that stone is often regarded as a cold and hard material in traditional concepts. Therefore, we are very eager to explore more possibilities of stone with designers through the Xiamen Habitat Design and Life Festival, breaking people's inherent impression of stone. When we received the curatorial theme of "To Activate", we deeply felt that this theme is very in line with our brand philosophy. We hope to showcase the diversity and innovation of stone through this theme, allowing people to see that stone is not only a building material, but also a design element with artistic value and humanistic care. We look forward to sharing our philosophy and products with more people. This theme effectively encourages designers to challenge traditional thinking and find new ways to activate stone. We look forward to seeing more designers apply innovative concepts and techniques to combine stone with other materials and create stunning design works. We also hope that through this event, we can promote the development of the stone industry and let more people understand the diversity and beauty of stone.

  • Cast Stone Window Surrounds Design - A Classic Interpretation of Renaissance Architectural Style
Cast Stone Window Surrounds Design - A Classic Interpretation of Renaissance Architectural Style
Renaissance architecture, as the mainstream architectural style in Europe from the 15th to the 19th century, shines with the brilliance of human wisdom and art. This style sometimes incorporates the characteristics of Baroque and Classical architecture, but its roots are deeply rooted in Florence, Italy. The design of cast stone window surrounds is an indispensable part of Renaissance architecture, adding endless charm to the building with its unique design and exquisite craftsmanship.   Under the theoretical guidance of Renaissance architecture, the design of stone window surrounds abandoned the Gothic architectural style that symbolized divine supremacy, and instead pursued the architectural forms of ancient Rome, especially elements such as classical column proportions, semi-circular arches, and architectural forms centered on domes. These elements are perfectly reflected in the design of stone window surrounds, making every detail full of classical charm and historical significance.   The design of stone window surrounds not only emphasizes the external beauty of form, but also emphasizes the internal structural beauty. Designers cleverly use the natural texture and color of stone to perfectly integrate window surrounds with the overall building, making the building visually more harmonious and unified. At the same time, the firmness and durability of the stone also ensure the service life of the window surrounds, allowing the building to maintain its unique charm in the baptism of time.   Under the influence of Renaissance architectural style, stone window surrounds design has become a unique art form. It is not only a part of architecture, but also the pursuit and expression of classical aesthetics and humanistic spirit by architects. Whether it's luxurious palaces, solemn churches, or cozy residential buildings, stone window surrounds add a unique charm and charm to the architecture, allowing people to feel the cultural atmosphere and artistic charm of the Renaissance period.
